It was only a matter of time before it came to this. With these eagle eyes filled with 26 years of Muppet love and those devoted hours spent strolling through the catwalks of style.com, there were two lessons to learn:

  1. Print on print style isn’t going anywhere any time soon. In fact, fashion at the moment is not just about contrasting prints together, but MATCHING prints together. That’s right, like some sort of tailored, high fashion pyjamas.

  2. Wear pretty much anything a Muppet wore in the 80s for the ultimate in edgy, fashion dressing. No, SERIOUSLY. This look from Michael Kors’ Resort 2013 collection looks like it was torn directly off Kermit’s little green back:

Other eerily current trends worn by the Muppets in The Muppets Take Manhattan include glitter encrusted/ sequin pop colour outfits; a mini polka dot and block colour combo that looks freakishly similar to Karen Walker’s last collection; oversized patterned knits... actually, even the floral halo Miss Piggy wears in the wedding sequence is bang on trend (check Kate Moss and The Manrepeller’s wedding and just try to tell me they’re not referencing The Pig).

Naturally, Forrest Chase has its own pile of Muppet-esque prints to ensure you’re as styling as everyone’s favourite green felt friend and/or Michael Kors’ latest collection. Whichever you’d prefer to take inspiration from, I’m not holding a gun to your head (but seriously, how can anyone NOT love Muppets. I think it might be a sign of latent sociopath behaviour).

That spots on spots look up there is not only super freaking adorable and a great way to wear pop colour jeans, but it’s an easy way to wear print on print. Pare it back to classic black and white, wear the jacket open with a black belt over the top and you’ve got yourself a look that all your friends will envy. Trust me, I’m a (raving, Muppet adoring) stylist.
