Ah, ye olde office Christmas party time is upon us – and with it comes the choice to a) line our stomachs before hand, space our drinks, make chit chat and wake up hangover free; b) survive on finger food and champagne alone and give a stirring rendition of Living on a Prayer for the accounts department with bonus photographic evidence that will live to haunt you for 6-8 months; or c) drink to excess and tell your boss what you REALLY think. Hot tip: avoid c) at all costs by employing stomach lining methods outlined in section a). Along with avoidable life mistakes, the office party also affords us the opportunity to buy gifts for co-workers drawn from a hat on a tiny budget. These are often difficult circumstances especially when you know nothing about your KK aside from their name, and if you’re lucky, their gender. My solution is to go broad if you don’t know the person: pick a brightly coloured, totally unobjectionable, little fun thing and hope for the best.

As a bowerbird turned human, there is nothing I love more than party wear: an opportunity to turn myself into a champagne sipping, finger food bingeing, all-night-dancing piece of glitter? Consider my name scrawled excitedly on the line in gold gel pen (all i’s dotted with hearts). Yay! As December looms ever closer, reasons to get all gussied up will skyrocket: Christmas parties every other weekend, end of year catch-ups, an inexplicable glut of birthday parties for those who selfishly choose to be born in December, and the calendar’s shiniest event, New Year’s Eve all crammed into one month – you’ve got a lot of reasons to celebrate (celebration occasionally enforced).? Don’t be that person who searches for their outfit at the last minute: December events are usually booked a month in advance, so you’ve got plenty of time to think about what you’re going to wear – and to add plenty of cocktail dresses and the like into your arsenal.

It’s time to talk swimwear. I know you’ve already been to the beach last weekend and those ice cold waves were like a glorious medicine, but having to constantly readjust and double check nothing had decided to reveal itself to the world courtesy of your sunburned, chlorine eaten swimmers every time your decided to dip yourself under water? Not medicine. The opposite of medicine: stress (the opposite of medicine is probably poison but let me have this OK). Old bathers are your nipple slipping, bottom sagging, constant shifting enemy and it’s time to update. But don’t worry, I’ll give you some sweet guidance (and this same advice I do every year: go shopping in the morning when your stomach is flatter) and cherry-pick a couple of beauties to start you off.
